Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)  including our School Offer

When the Children and Families Bill is activated in 2014, local authorities will be required to publish information online about all services for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) aged 0 - 25. This is the Local Offer.

The Local Offer will provide accurate and easy to understand information for parents, carers and young people about what services are available and how they can access them.

Here at St Joseph's we make a School Offer to those children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities across all curriculum areas.

At St Joseph’s we believe all children are special.

We strive as a school to support all children to achieve their best in their learning journey.

Quality first teaching is vital, although for some children further steps need to be taken to help them on their learning journey

The following details St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School’s Individual School Offer (SEN Information Report as required in Schedule 1 of Regulation 51) and should be read in conjunction with Calderdale’s Local Offer www.calderdale.gov.uk/localofferwhich details the provision available in all Calderdale schools and academies.

Disability Access

All schools have duties under the Equality Act 2010 towards individual disabled children and young people. They must make reasonable adjustments, including the provision of auxiliary aids and services for disabled children, to prevent them being put at a substantial disadvantage. These duties are anticipatory – they require thought to be given in advance to what disabled children and young people might require and what adjustments might need to be made to prevent that disadvantage. Schools also have wider duties to prevent discrimination, to promote equality of opportunity and to foster good relations. (SEND COP 2014)
